Modern Whistler Wedding at the Audain Art Museum

The first time I visited the Audain Art Museum in Whistler it took my breath away. A refreshingly modern space in a mountain town, with windows that frame snow dusted trees and invite the light to dance. It’s an ideal venue for a couple looking to host a Whistler wedding, but who favour a more modern and minimal aesthetic to a traditional lodge style environment.

Featured below is an elopement we and planned and designed in collaboration with The Four Season’s Whistler and the Audain Art Museum which was recently published on Green Wedding Shoes. Captured by Rebecca and Lindsey, it was an ideal December day with freshly dusted trees and sunshine. See the full story of Andrea and Andrew’s elopement in Whistler captured below.

Our designer Elizabeth created the modern wedding stationery suite featured above, with hand painted brush strokes and a touch of gold.

The Audain Art Museum was designed by John and Patricia Patkau, David Shone and their firm Patkau Architects of Vancouver, B.C. The museum is nested in a grove of Engelmann and Sitka Spruce hybrids and was designed to integrate into its surroundings. We previously share ideas for hosting a wedding at the Audain Art Museum here.

Real Wedding: Carmen and Gregg

An elegant oceanside garden party, with a focus on great food, personal details and fun! This was the vision shared with us by Carmen and Gregg. They wanted to get married at Carmen’s family home in West Vancouver, cliffside, with guests feasting on freshly shucked oysters by the sea, taco’s poolside and dancing under the moonlight till the early morning hours.

Held at the brides family home in West Vancouver, looking out at Bowen Island with sailboats passing by, the views were spectacular. This cliffside home was a challenge to set-up for  a wedding, but the guest experience and memories made were worth it. We did our sun dance (and had a back-up plan of course) and the risk was worth the reward. Thank you for trusting us with you vision Carmen and Gregg!

Carmen and Gregg choose a palate of nude, peach and bright sherbet, with soft green and yellows. Florals by Celsia Floral complimented the garden and coastal grasses planted throughout the property. Linen toss cushions were set out on The Collection Rentals lounge furniture inviting guests to relax, and fans and boozy popsicles by Railtown Catering were passed to help guests stay cool in the warm sun.

Carmen and Gregg were married on the grass, then enjoyed a cocktail reception by the sea and poolside as we re-set the grass area for dinner under the stars. With guests traveling from all over the world to attend, there was plenty of time to connect and enjoy the spectacular views!

Custom painted maps above and signs below by our designer Elizabeth showed guests where to go for oysters, tacos and an evening whisky bar!

One of the first things Carmen shared was the song she’d walk down the aisle to, “There will be time” by Mumford and Sons. With her future husband’s South African roots in mind it was deeply personal. Carmen and her Dad walked up from the ocean to the beat of the drums and it was an incredible moment. Music can sometimes be overlooked when it comes to a wedding, but it’s these details that come together to create the moments you’ll remember forever.

2018 Bridal Trends from New York

Many of our favorite bridal designers like Alexandra Grecco, Marchesa, and Rime Arodaky, have just presented their latest collections as part of Bridal Fashion Week in New York.

Here we’ve rounded up some of our favorite trends you can expect to see arriving in Vancouver’s bridal boutiques just in time for dress shopping season for 2018 brides!

Floral Embellishments

Delicate, natural-inspired embellishments and appliques adorned many gowns, with some designers including floral-printed fabrics in their collections.

Colored Gowns

From soft nudes and blush, to greys, silver, green and peach, there was a splash of color on almost every runway this season.

Pants and Bridal Jumpsuits

Now this is a trend we’re excited to get behind – bridal pants and jumpsuits! Whether it’s an outfit change to allow you to hit the dance floor at your reception, or perhaps a stylish ensemble for your rehearsal dinner, we can think of plenty of reasons to embrace this look.

Pockets!

Pockets – the perfect, comfortable and practical addition to every dress – even your wedding dress!

Off The Shoulder

While strapless gowns have long had a place in bridal fashion, the new season’s take on this look included detached sleeves, giving the illusion of an off-the-shoulder dress but with more freedom for your arms to move (and dance!).
