Five years ago yesterday, my husband asked me to marry him. It was on the day that would have been his grandparents anniversary and he took me to our summer cabin on Thormanby Island for the day. Cabins all boarded up for the winter season, he told me to bundle up, packed a picnic and we traveled by boat to make an “afternoon trip” to the island. Not a typical date, I was suspicious that something big might be coming. When Jason asked me to marry him I knew the answer was yes. I’d know for a long time, but I couldn’t have imagined how I’d feel. As he proposed, I was nervous like a first date all over again, full of butterflies and excitement. What followed was a lot of tears, laughter and joy as we spread the news over the holidays to our family and friends.
This Christmas, whether you are newly engaged, in the midst of planning your wedding, or five years in like us, I hope you feel the joy and excitement of the magic that is finding someone to love and to be loved by. In all the crazy and busyness of the season, hold that close. To me, it’s the best gift of all.
We’re signing off for a few days to trim the tree, drink eggnog and spend time with family and friends. Wishing you a wonderful holiday season!
