May02 Real Party: Chase’s 1st Circus Party 2011

We thought it was fitting to throw a “circus” for Chase’s 1st birthday, as that is what the house feels like when it is filled with all of our little guy’s besties. We had so much fun with the details of this party.

The “Big Top” was created by draping circus-inspired fabric and curtains from Ikea. The kids had so much fun dressing up in the photobooth and Chase’s older brother Bennett insisted on being the ringmaster. This is no surprise, as he is often the leader of our circus! The clown-inspired party hats were made by simply embellishing store-bought plain party hats with pom poms, feathers, ribbon and whatever else we could find in our craft drawer.

Of course, no birthday party is complete without a good dose of sugar, and the dessert table was a hit. Perhaps it should have been out of arm’s reach of the little ones! We found a few kids tucked away in the corner (mine included) nibbling away on copious amounts of licorice and cupcakes. The cake bunting and flags were a fun DIY project using fabric scraps, divine twine, toothpicks and a glue gun, and the yummy birthday cake adorned with bunting was from Butter Bakery.

The finishing act was Chase’s smash cake and he enjoyed every last bite!

The photos were taken by the lovely and talented Bee Chalmers Photography.

I love birthdays, especially the sweet kids and the sweet cake! I can’t wait to plan the next one.

Found your blog via hiphiphooray today! Took one look at the photo of the house and knew it was taken in Vancouver. (The craftsman-style, old-timer house and grey skies gave it away for me.) I love discovering local blogs and I can’t wait to read more of your posts! *adds link to bookmarks*
